NH sports betting market grows year-on-year in February

Sports wagering handle and revenue in New Hampshire both increased year-on-year in February, although the state also reported month-on-month declines.

Player spending for the month amounted to $87.0m, which was 22.7% more than $70.9m in February 2022 but 10.5% lower than $97.2m in January this year.

Of this total, $75.5m was wagered online, while the remaining $11.5m was spent betting at retail sportsbooks.

Tab NZ pens long-term strategic partnering with Entain

Tab NZ, the sole holder of a betting licence in New Zealand, has entered into a long-term strategic partnership with Entain.

Under the arrangement, which remains subject to ministerial approval, Entain will support Tab NZ with delivering wagering and broadcast functions in the country for a period of 25 years.

Tab NZ said it took the decision to enter such a partnership due to increasing competition, rising costs, capital constraints and other challenges that have impacted its ability to deliver adequate funding to racing and sports.

With these challenges expected to increase, Tab NZ said it had spent the last six months engaging with a range of operators in relation to a strategic partnering arrangement and received a number of proposals, including the successful pitch from Entain.

Inspired scores deal with Aristocrat through NFL licence

Gaming provider Aristocrat Gaming announced today that it had chosen Inspired Entertainment to launch a new “virtual sports experience” for football fans through the company’s licensing agreement with the National Football League (NFL).

The NFL-themed virtual sports games will allow fans to bet on teams as they compete in simulated games. Aristocrat said that users will be able to wager with many of the options that they are already familiar with including money line bets, over/under total score and total touchdowns.

According to the business, the virtual sports games will include NFL imagery such as the NFL shield, the logos of all 32 teams, heritage team marks, AFC and NFC Conference logos, as well as the Super Bowl logo.

Mississippi sports betting handle continues to decline in February

Sports wagering handle in Mississippi fell again in February, with the US state reporting a month-on-month and year-on-year decline.

Consumers spent $39.8m betting on sports during the month, down 2.7% from $40.9m in the same month last year and also 30.4% lower than the amount wagered in January this year.

In terms of revenue, this reached $3.1m, which was 63.1% higher than $1.9m in February of 2022 but 39.2% behind the $5.1m generated in January.

ARC acquires Arabian Racing Organisation, signs Ascot rights deal

Arena Racing Company (ARC) has completed its acquisition of the Arabian Racing Organisation (ARO) and signed a four-year rights agreement with At The Races (ATR) and Ascot racecourse.

ARO is the only Arabian Racing Authority in Britain, and operates with the support of the British Horseracing Authority.

As part of the acquisition, ARO CEO Genny Haynes, racing operations manager Willie McFarland and ARO official photographer, media and PR Debbie Burt, will remain in charge of delivering the published 2023 fixture list. The fixtures will cover a programme of Arabian races that will take place on British racecourses.

Oklahoma tribal sports betting bill clears House

The Oklahoma House of Representatives has voted through a bill that would allow tribes in the US state to add legal sports betting to their existing gaming compacts.

House Bill 1027 passed yesterday (21 March) by a vote of 66-26 and will now move forward to the Senate for a further committee progress, where it could face additional amendments.

The final version of the bill would need approval from both the House and Senate before it could be passed to the governor for final sign-off.

Almost four years on, and with business booming for the B2B supplier, he’s poised to make another huge call with plans to split the business into media and platform suppliers.

When he was confirmed as permanent CEO of Gaming Innovation Group (GiG) in November 2019, Richard Brown pledged a focus “on delivery, execution and optimisation, putting us on a path for great focus and renewed growth”.

Missouri House votes to approve sports betting bill

The Missouri House of Representatives has voted to approve a bill that would legalise sports betting in the US state.

While the vote is a step forward in the authorisation of sports betting in the Show-Me State, a formal roll call vote is required in the House before the bill is sent to the state Senate for final confirmation.

House Bill 556, which would allow for retail and online sports wagering in Missouri, is being co-sponsored by Republicans Dave Hinman and Adam Schwadron, as well as Democrats Keri Ingle and Ashley Bland Manlove.

The bill was introduced to the House at the start of the year and approved last night (20 March). Following a formal roll call, which is expected to take place later this week, the bill will then progress to the Senate for further discussion.

Troy Paul founded influencer marketing specialist SGG Media with his father after graduating from university during the Covid-19 pandemic. The sports betting industry had long appealed to him, leading him to dive in.

“I knew that once PASPA had been repealed, there was a huge industry being created – I wanted to be a part of it,” he explains.

Massachusetts sports betting revenue reaches $2.0m in opening month

Sports betting revenue in Massachusetts amounted to $2.0m during the first full month of regulation in February.

The US state opened its legal sports betting market on 31 January with an initial three land-based operators going live: Encore Boston Harbor, MGM Springfield and Plainridge Park Casino.

Plainridge Park proved the most successful of the three operators with $890,555 in revenue for the opening month, just ahead or Encore Boston Harbor on $857,602. MGM Springfield generated $262,066 in sports betting revenue.

Pennsylvania gambling revenue up 21.6% in February

Gambling revenue in Pennsylvania increased by 21.6% year-on-year in February, driven by significant growth across the sports betting and online slots sectors.

Revenue for the month amounted to $456.8m, up from $375.7m in February 2022 and just 1.6% shy of the $464.4m generated in January of this year, according to the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB).

Retail slots remained by far the main gambling revenue source in the state with $202.8m, up 4.2% year-on-year, while retail table games revenue also edged up 0.2% to $74.5m.
