Italy’s igaming revenue dominated by casino and slots in December

Italy's igaming revenue continued its slow decline, even with casino and slots experiencing a big increase at the end of 2022.

Italy’s igaming revenue experienced a subtle decline, with December’s revenue of €315.8m showing a 2% decrease compared to the previous month. Despite this, there was a 1.2% increase year-on-year, indicating a stable increase in the industry.

Both retail sports betting and online sports were reflected in this decline, but the remaining products picked up from the previous month.

The stand out of the sectors was casino & slots, which witnessed an impressive 17% increase by reaching €206.1m revenue in December, compared to its €176.1m revenue in November.

In terms of market share, casino & slots dominated with the largest increase in market share, and online sports betting lost almost a third of its market share from November. Meanwhile, Lottomatica/Goldbet maintained its position as the leader in the online casino industry with a 12.4% market share, wh..

Italy’s sports betting revenue dipped in the lead-up to the Fifa World Cup

Italy's igaming revenue in November dipped slightly to €322.5m in the lead-up to the Fifa World Cup, down from October’s revenue of €331.1m.

Since pushing past the €300m barrier in September 2022, Italy’s igaming revenue has remained relatively stable. Although November’s revenue of €322.5m does represent a 2.6% decline month-on-month, this is still a 6.0% increase year-on-year. The decline was mostly consistent across all verticals, although sports betting’s decline of 4.3% was the biggest drop for November, with revenue of €126.3m.

However, online sports betting still fared better than retail sports betting, which suffered a decline of 16.4% month-on-month, which is a decrease in revenue from €88.6m in October to €74.1m in November.

In contrast to the betting figures, casino revenues only dropped by 2.1% from €180.0m to €176.1m.

The market shares of online casino operators by GGR remained relatively stable in November, with Eurobet being the biggest mover as it was unable to..

Sisal obtains Morocco’s sports betting concession

Flutter Entertainment-owned Sisal has been awarded Morocco’s sports betting concession licence for an eight-year term.

The Italy-facing online operator, which launched Morocco’s lotteries licence in 2019, obtained the betting concession from La Marocaine des Jeux et des Sports (MDJS). The deal, which sees Sisal replace Intralot from January 2024, also includes the possibility of a two-year extension.

The offering, which includes fixed-odds and mutual betting, will be exclusively distributed by Sisal Jeux Maroc through a network of retail outlets and online. Sisal Jeux Maroc is a joint venture between Sisal and Paddy Power, another Flutter division.

The award comes a year after the beginning of the tender process, and six months after Sisal was acquired by Flutter in a €1.91bn deal.

Marco Caccavale, chief executive of Sisal Jeux Maroc and international managing director of Sisal, said: “We are extremely pleased to announce the consolidation of our offering in Morocco. The decision b..

Flutter revenue up 31% in Q3 as US becomes largest market

Flutter Entertainment forecast a 31% year-on-year increase in revenue for the third quarter of its 2022 financial year, primarily due to growth within its US and international businesses.

In a trading update, Flutter said that revenue for the three months to the end of September is expected to amount to £1.89bn (€2.17bn/$2.18bn), which would be a significant increase from £1.44bn in the corresponding period last year.

On a constant currency basis, revenue is forecast to increase by 82%.

Flutter said it expects this to be driven by growth within the US, where its revenue is forecast to rise 114% year-on-year, or 82% on a constant currency basis, to $598m, making it Flutter’s largest market.

This, the group said, was down to a 106% rise in sports revenue – comprising sportsbook, exchange, daily fantasy sports, advance deposit wagering and B2B product verticals – driven by customer acquisition across existing states as the new NFL season began.

US igaming revenue is also expected t..

Italy’s online sports betting revenue dips in May, while casino holds steady

Italy's igaming revenue declined to €276.4m in May from April’s €292.2m, mostly due to a dip in online sports betting.

Online sports betting revenue continued its downward trend, dropping below the €100 million mark for the first time since October 2021. This is compared to €153.5 million from May 2021. This drastic year-on-year drop is partially explained by restrictions that were in place on the retail sector in May last year, prompting more customers to bet online.

However, retail sports betting also suffered a sudden decline on a month-on-month basis after a period of stability, coming down from €83.5 million in April to €66.4 million in May.

In contrast to the betting figures, casino revenue ticked slightly upwards to €161.8 from €155.1 million. As a result, the igaming revenue product split swayed heavily away from sports betting, taking up only 35.3% of the market in May as opposed to 40.7% in April.

The drops in market share that the biggest four online casino operato..
