MS sports betting revenue up despite handle dip in April

Mississippi experienced a year-on-year increase in sports betting revenue in April despite reporting a decline in handle.

Player spending for the month amounted to $31.8m, which was 10.4% lower than $35.5m in April 2022 and also 31.9% down from $46.7m in March of this year.

However, revenue reached $4.3m, which was up marginally from $4.2m in the same month last year but 14.0% lower than $5.0m in March.

PA gambling revenue reaches $476.7m in April

Gambling revenue in Pennsylvania climbed 3.3% year-on-year in April but fell short of the monthly record set in March.

Total market revenue for the month amounted to $476.7m, up from $461.6m in April 2022 but 7.5% lower than the record $515.3m in March of this year.

Land-based slots, the primary source of revenue for the state, declined 2.2% year-on-year to $213.0m. Retail table games also slipped 7.8% to $84.4m.

In contrast, online casino gaming revenue jumped 21.3% to $137.2m. Internet slots revenue was up 24.7% to $95.6m and igaming tables revenue climbed 16.1% to $38.9m, although ipoker revenue slipped 7.0% to $2.7m.

Hollywood Casino at Penn National retained top spot with $58.5m in total igaming revenue. Valley Forge Casino Resort was second with $31.2m, then Rivers Casino Philadelphia on $26.1m.

NJ gambling revenue up 9.5% in April despite slots decline

Gambling revenue in New Jersey increased 9.5% year-on-year in April despite a drop in slot machine win, the state’s primary source of gaming revenue.

Total revenue for the month reached $462.7m, up from $422.5m in April 2022 but 5.1% behind the $487.4m generated in March of this year.

All areas of the market experienced year-on-year growth, with the exception of land-based slots where revenue fell 3.2% to $169.7m. Retail table games revenue edged up 2.9% to $61.8m, but the slots decline meant total land-based revenue fell 1.6% to $231.5m.

Independent evaluator bill approved in Maryland

A bill that would require Maryland’s Lottery and Gaming Control Commission to instal independent evaluators to assess sports betting content has been signed by the state’s governor.

Governor Wes Moore approved bill SB621, which will become effective on 1 July 2023. Maryland’s sports betting market opened on 23 November 2022.

The content assessed by the evaluators will be that produced by sports betting experts, influencers and content partners.

MA online sports betting handle surpasses $566m in first full month

Online sports wagering handle in Massachusetts amounted to $566.2m in April, the first full month of the state’s newly regulated market.

Massachusetts launched legal online sports betting on 10 March, with six licensed operators currently active in the state: Barstool Sportsbook, BetMGM, Caesars Sportsbook, DraftKings, FanDuel and WynnBet.

The $566.2m wagered by consumers in April continued a strong start to legal online betting in Massachusetts, following the $548.1m spent in the opening three weeks of regulation.

Indiana sports betting handle continues to decline in April

Sports wagering handle in Indiana fell year-on-year in April, while the state also experienced a month-on-month decline in player spending.

Consumers bet $321.4m on sports during the month, down 10.7% from $360.0m in April last year and also 25.8% behind the $433.0m wagered in March of this year.

Basketball was again the most popular sport to bet on, drawing $91.6m in wagers, ahead of baseball on $61.2m and football with $3.4m. Some $91.6m was wagered in parlay bets and $74.0m was spent betting on other sports.

Iowa sports betting handle continues to decline in April

Iowa experienced another year-on-year drop in sports wagering handle in April, although the state was able to report an increase in revenue.

Consumers spent $172.6m betting on sports during the month, down 2.7% from $177.4m in April 2022 and also 25.8% behind the $232.6m wagered in March of this year.

Of this total, $157.5m was wagered online, while the remaining $15.1m was bet with retail sportsbooks across the state.

Consumers in Maryland can download the SuperBook Sports app or visit the website and place bets across a wide range of sports and competitions.

Players can also wager in-person at the new SuperBook Bar & Restaurant at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, the home of Major League Baseball franchise the Baltimore Orioles. The facility features 38 televisions and an LED wall for watching live sports events.

RI sports betting revenue up in March despite handle decline

Sports wagering revenue in Rhode Island increased 8.1% year-on-year in March despite the US state reporting a decline in handle.

Players spent $41.5m betting on sports during the month, down 9.4% from $45.8m in March 2022 and also 3.7% lower than the $43.1m wagered in February this year.

Of this total, $30.0m was spent betting online, with the remaining $11.5m wagered at retail facilities at the Twin River and Tiverton Casino locations. Twin River took $6.2m in bets and Tiverton $5.3m.

Player spending on sports betting in Colorado declined 2.2% year-on-year in March, although the US state was still able to report an increase in revenue.

Handle for the month amounted to $494.4m, which was down from $505.6m in March 2022 but 16.3% ahead of the $425.1m wagered in February of this year.

Consumers bet $489.9m online during the month, while the remaining $4.5m was wagered at land-based, retail sportsbooks in the state.

Mississippi bounces back in March as handle and revenue climb

Sports betting revenue and handle in Mississippi both increased month-on-month in March, while the US state also reported a year-on-year rise in revenue despite a dip in spending.

Handle in the month amounted to $46.7m, which was 2.5% lower than $47.9m in the same month in 2022 but 17.3% ahead of $39.8m in February of this year.

Turning to revenue, the state posted $5.0m for the month, up 22.0% year-on-year and also 61.3% higher than $3.1m in February.

New Hampshire sets sports betting handle record in March

Consumers in New Hampshire spent a record $103.4m betting on sports in March, beating the previous monthly high set back in January 2022.

The monthly handle was 3.9% ahead of the existing record of $99.5m, as well as 31.2% up from $78.8m in March 2022 and 18.9% ahead of the $87.0m spent in February this year.

Players wagered $93.4m online as well as $10.0m at retail sportsbooks across the state.
