Pennsylvania smashes igaming revenue record again in November

Online casino revenue in Pennsylvania hit a new record-high for the second consecutive month in November, while total gambling revenue in the state increased year-on-year.

Overall market revenue for the month amounted to $452.4m (£373.5m/€426.9m), up 4.6% from $432.5m in November 2021 and also 0.5% ahead of $450.2m in October of this year.

Analysing the monthly performance, retail slots remained by far the primary source of revenue for the state, generating $185.6m in revenue for the month, level with the previous year. However, retail table games revenue slipped 4.4% year-on-year to $79.2m.

ParlayBay secures additional €1.0m in funding

Sports betting content provider ParlayBay has secured a further €1.0m (£875,292/$1.1m) in funds during a recent interim financing round.

ParlayBay said it would use the money to support its commercial growth plans in 2023 – including the launch of its ParlayPowers promotional tools – and to continue to expand its network of clients around the world.

This year, ParlayBay closed deals with operators including TipoBet365, TOPsport and Hub88, while most recently it signed an agreement with 7bet, with the operator to become the first to incorporate ParlayBay’s real-money gaming suite.

In addition, earlier this month, igaming veteran and Yggdrasil founder Fredrik Elmqvist joined the ParlayBay board of directors.

“We’re really pleased to have raised a considerable amount in our most recent funding round, especially given the current challenging climate,” ParlayBay chief executive Patrick Nordwall said.

“Fredrik joining our board is a fantastic addition as we ramp up our growth going into..

BetMGM granted Massachusetts betting licence, but with strings attached

BetMGM and MGM Springfield have both been granted sports betting licences from the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC), but conditions were attached to the licence of the former.

Issued with a category 1 sports wagering operator licence for Massachusetts, MGM Springfield is now allowed to operate betting at a land-based facility, as well as on up to two online platforms.

One of its online skins will be provided by BetMGM – an MGM-Entain joint venture – which was also awarded a temporary category 3 sports wagering operator licence. However, this came only under certain conditions.

BetMGM and MGM Springfield had initially applied individually for a Massachusetts sports betting licence. However, the relationship between the two entities created complications as MGM Springfield initially answered questions on the application with reference to BetMGM’s documentation.

As a result, the regulator delayed the vote on approving the licences until yesterday (19 December).

South Africa in focus: Can product be a selling point?

In the third part of a series taking an in-depth look at the South African gambling market, Daniel O’Boyle looks at the standard of product in the market.

In almost every part of the world, the online betting experience has been heavily shaped by what retail betting looked like. So to understand the online betting experience in South Africa, you have to know something about retail betting in South Africa.

“I’ve traveled the world and seen betting shops around the world but I don’t think I’ve ever seen betting shops of the size I’ve seen in South Africa,” Kiron Interactive chief executive Stephen Spartinos says. “You’ve got betting shops of the size of a Wal-Mart and you’ve got 100 cashiers.

“You walk into these shops and you talk about two, three floors. At any time you could have 2,000-3,000 punters in your shop.”

But it’s not simply the size that makes South African betting shops stand out. Betting shops in the country are able to be so large partly because the betting experience..

Player receives €14,000 in German illegal sports betting reimbursement case

The Köln Regional Court has confirmed that a player has been reimbursed for €14,000 (£12,195/$14,845) after placing bets with unlicensed sports betting operator Brivio Limited.

The plaintiff had participated in sports betting on Vulcanvegas.com between 2020 and 2022. This website is operated by Brivio Limited, which is based in Cyprus.

The plaintiff’s losses were estimated to be €14,000.

Unlike previous cases, which dealt with activity before the Fourth State Treaty on Gambling came into effect in Germany, this case included activity up to 2022.

Brivio Limited did not have a licence to operate before or after the Treaty took effect, meaning that its post-treaty activity was also illegal.

Reimbursement

The court said that the operator had violated the State Treaty on Gambling as it did not have a licence to operate.

The judgement was made by default as Brivio Limited did not defend itself against the lawsuit in court.

As well as being ordered to pay the losses, Brivio Limited m..

CDI to develop DraftKings horse racing offering

Race track and gaming business Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI) has entered into a multi-year agreement with DraftKings to develop DK Horse, a pari-mutuel wagering horse racing product for the sports betting operator.

CDI’s B2B horse racing subsidiary TwinSpires will develop the white-label solution. This will involve providing the company’s advanced deposit wagering technology to DraftKings.

While TwinSpires initially started life as CDI’s B2C online betting and casino platform, the business pivoted to being a B2B provider after facing intense market competition in 2021.

Under the terms of the deal, CDI will also provide the pari-mutuel wagering rights to content that the business owns or controls, such as the Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby. CDI will also provide additional horse racing content on the operator’s behalf.

“We are excited to collaborate with Churchill Downs Incorporated, not only to give our existing customers an opportunity to engage with pari-mutuel horse wa..

Luckbox owner to acquire Asia-facing B2B platform

Luckbox owner Real Luck Group has signed a letter of intent to acquire an unnamed igaming platform targeting the Asia-Pacific region.

Real Luck Group will acquire 100% of the shares in the Asia-facing business, which it says will give it access to more than 6,000 games from 50 game providers.

Real Luck Group chief executive Thomas Rosander said that the business had long aimed to add a B2B element to its portfolio, but that through this deal it is set to accomplish this sooner than it had expected.

“Adding B2B to our proprietary platform has always been a significant part of the Luckbox strategy, and this important acquisition means we will complete this objective almost a year in advance of our projections,” he said. “It also extends our opportunities into APAC, a significant region that we currently do not have a presence in and perhaps the largest esports market globally.

“This transaction ultimately builds our business’ upside by providing ..
