Michigan operators boosted by record monthly igaming receipts

Michigan’s commercial and tribal igaming operators generated record gross receipts of $175.3m (£138.5m/€160.2m) in November, according to the state’s regulator.

Michigan’s total gaming revenue beat the previous record of $171.8m in March and $160.3m in October, the Michigan Gaming Control Board stated. Total igaming handle was not reported.

November’s total online sports betting handle of $568.8m also set a new monthly record – up 6.7% from $533m in October. However, online sports betting receipts fell from $45m to $33.9m versus the previous month.

Accordingly, igaming and sports betting gross receipts totalled $209.2m in November. This represented a 1.9% increase on October’s total.

Combined igaming and internet sports betting adjusted gross receipts (AGR) for Michigan in November totalled $158.1m. This included $157.8m from igaming and just $294,810 from online sports betting.

Jockey Club CEO launches petition against affordability checks

Nevin Truesdale, CEO of The Jockey Club’s is rallying opposition against the proposed implementation of financial risk checks on online gamblers in the UK through an online petition.

The petition, entitled “Stop the implementation of betting affordability/financial risk checks”, went live on Wednesday. By 5pm UK time on Friday, the petition had received more than 43,500 signatures.

When a petition reaches 100,000 signatures, it is considered for a parliamentary debate.

The petition underlines belief “in the freedom of the individual to choose how to spend their money”, Truesdale stated.

Financial risk checks were one of the many terms put forward in the Gambling Act review white paper. The Gambling Commission concluded a public consultation last month after receiving over 2,000 responses.

BetConstruct-operated sports betting and gaming brand VBet has announced a new sponsorship deal with French football club OGC Nice.

The club will be the latest French football team to make a deal with operator, following the announcement of similar deals with AS Monaco in 2020 and Paris FC the previous March. VBet branding will feature on the club’s shorts through to 2025, as well as prominently on its digital platforms.
